This years championship was a challenge due to hurricane Rita that went across the Sam Rayburn area. We had to relocate and reschedule. I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding. This was my last tournament as youth director. It's been an honor and a pleasure to put on these tournaments for these kids, and to see the Jr. Bassmaster program take off in Texas. Please continue to support the program and help Trey Scott in any way you can to enhance this great opportunity for these kids. I'll be seeing you around the trail. I'm retiring as Youth Director, but I'm still a Dad to Maddie and Gabbie and we will be practicing harder now to knock off the boys on our way to the top. It's been fun and will remain to be.
See ya, Gary Smith

15-18 Age Group
The 15-18 age group was the largest with 12 entries trying to win a trip to the classic. Blaze Platt was very impressive with his 12.90 lb sack of fish, but most impressive was his 6.48lb kicker hawg. Blaze will represent Texas with Dale in the Jr. Bassmaster World Championship in February. these guys will be paired up with a BASS tournament pro for 2 days of fishing. The first day will be a pro am for fun, but day 2 is all business as a fully rigged boat has been presented to the past 2 champions at the championship. Finishing out this age group in order of finish was Joey Clifton in second place with a sack worth mentioning. Joey had 11.15 lbs and like his younger brother made a run at 1st place. Last years 11-14 champion, Jason Hughes brought in 4.66 lbs for 4th place. 5th place went to "Mr. Consistency" Travis Baker. 6th was Turner Hall. 7th was Brett Hale, 8th place was last years State Champion 15-18 year old, Taylor Stewart.
